Leaders of cities need new ways of thinking about how to design and plan sustainable cities and sustain urban growth in conjunction with local stakeholders. Well-informed governance and citizen engagement is essential to building more liveable and low-carbon cities. This workshop will present methods for effective engagement strategies that will highlight how smart technology and citizen engagement is being used across Europe to co-design green cities. A range of local authorities and a research institution will showcase innovative initiatives to implement green cities, using research, innovation, good governance and the power of engaging in better and deeper collaboration with local citizens. A sustainability challenge is also a social one.
When: 21.October, 11:30-13:00
Ivanka Pandelieva-Dimova from Sofia Energy Centre will represent SmartEnCity (focus on Follower City Asenovgrad) as part of the workshop "Partnerships for Renewable Energy Regions":
What: A greener Europe will require local and regional authorities to increase the share of renewable energy in their production and consumption mixes. This workshop will explore how regions and cities can join forces with rural communities to create renewable energy partnerships. Such partnerships help cities meet their demand for renewable energy from reliable regional supplies while strengthening the economic resilience of rural communities.
Best-practice examples from the Interreg North-West project RegEnergy as well as from Eastern Europe will shed light on how to overcome regulatory and other barriers.
When: 15. October, 11:30-13:00
