Lighthouse City Tartu is celebrating Christmas with residents

17 Dec 2019

On 4 December 2019, nearly 80 pilot area residents gathered in Tartu for another pilot area information event. As the holidays are just around the corner, participants were served (non-alcoholic) mulled wine and gingerbread in addition to pastries and snacks, to help everyone to get in the holiday spirit.

Mr Raimond Tamm, the deputy mayor and project manager of the Tartu SmartEnCity project, opened the meeting by offering an overview of the project activities so far. After this, Ms Andra Somelar, the art coordinator of the project, introduced the 12 artworks that have been completed during the past year and gave an outlook for future plans in the upcoming year.

But the main part of the meeting was reserved for the smart home system that now has been installed in most pilot area apartments. Project team member Mr Tõnis Eelma and EnLife OÜ representative Mr Raivo Raestik introduced the system and it’s features in detail and answered questions from the participating residents.

As the meeting showed, several problems that many housing associations have experienced, can be solved easily and that smart houses, or smartovkas, just require ‘fine-tuning’, e.g. heating regimes that can be regulated via the central heating system. In addition to this successful meeting, the project team plans to launch a smart home system training program in January 2020 that will offer in-depth training and tips on the smart home system and prepare residents for independent use. The team will also prepare a smart home manual that will be distributed to all residents next year. The actual dates and times of the smart home trainings will be announced early January 2020.

All in all, the event was necessary and much appreciated in the pilot area. It brought together many residents that had never attended any SmartEnCity event before, according to feedback, ca 2/3 of the participants were newcomers. The next pilot area information event is planned for spring/early summer 2020.
