First Smart Electric Bus (BEI) arrives in SmartEnCity’s Lighthouse City Vitoria-Gasteiz
People of Vitoria – Gasteiz had the chance to explore the first intelligent electric bus which represents a revolutionary transport system service that from 2020 on will connect 14 city neighbourhoods with 13 leading-edge electric buses.

First ultra-fast EV charging point of the Iberian Peninsula opened in Vitoria-Gasteiz
Not part of SmartEnCity Project but breaking news: SmartEnCity Project Partner IBIL (EVE) has installed the first ultra-fast charging point for electric vehicles in southern Europe. Located on the beltway of Vitoria-Gasteiz (N-I highway in Lopidana), the facility can recharge the battery of any compatible EV in five to ten minutes, similar to the time used in a conventional refuelling.

“Three Maidens” have moved into the pilot area of Lighthouse City Tartu
In the end of June, the Tartu pilot area received its fourth artwork on the Tiigi 21 building, entitled “Three Maidens”. According to the author of the artwork, local Estonian artist Huupi, the artwork was inspired by a mural created in 1970 by the legendary Estonian artist Elmar Kits. “It took me a while to find the right artist and painting,” Huupi said. “I went through a lot of sketches before I found “Three Maidens” by Elmar Kits. It inspired me immediately and I could see how I can use my own creative style in recreating it.”

Tartu welcomes its new biogas buses and route network
On July 1, the new public transport route network along with a fleet of new environmentally friendly biogas buses was launched in Tartu. The new route network reduced the number of bus lines down to 13 and added two night buses. The route network will be serviced by 64 brand new gas buses that have A/C, low floors for better access and new validators. These allow passengers to purchase tickets with their contactless bank cards as well.

Retrofitted apartments in Lighthouse City Vitoria-Gasteiz are ready for monitoring
The deployment of necessary ICT Infrastructure is taking up pace. In connection with the building retrofitting process in Coronacion, the Vitoria-Gasteiz demo area, the deployment of the necessary ICT infrastructure for the monitoring of energy consumption and comfort conditions of the households is speeding up.

Info day for local companies about retrofitting works Phase III in demo-district Coronación
Just as done in the previous phases, VISESA has organised another info day in order to prepare the forthcoming tender for the renovation of the next 11 buildings in demo-district Coronación corresponding to Phase III.

Second phase of retrofitting works starting in Lighthouse City Vitoria-Gasteiz
After the completion of the retrofitting works of the second building in January, the cityscape of Vitoria-Gasteiz’ demo district again is marked by scaffolds, initiating the second phase of retrofitting works.

Tartu’s Energy Plan 2030+ is taking shape
The first draft of the Tartu Energy 2030+ Plan (Tartu SECAP) is ready. On June 12, Tartu Regional Energy Agency and Tartu City presented the first strategy draft of the new Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan of Tartu named Tartu Energy 2030+.
